Children’s Christmas Party in December

The Christmas Party usually held in December will not be held this year due to lack of support and general funds set aside forthi event. Santa will likely visit Post 758 on December 14, 2008. The commander of the Son’s of the American Legion Post 758 has made contact with the North Pole to schedule the visit.

Veterans Day 2007 Post 758

Since the holiday falls on November 11 (a Sunday, the same day as the pancake breakfast buffet), the open house which usually follows won’t happen this year.  Between our Legionnaires and Auxiliary members, they will be pulled in many different directions.  Our Post hosts the Broome County meeting on November 12, and a Post Meeting on November 13. So our Post will have its usual Veteran’s Day ceremony at 11 am in front of the Post Home, and about 15 minutes later at the Johnson City Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Main Street.  We will need riflemen for the firing party, so if you can help, that’d be appreciated.  Help with the breakfast buffet is also appreciated as well, so those who usually work the breakfast, may participate in the ceremony.

Pancake Breakfast #2 On October 21, 2007

Our Second Pancake Breakfast Buffet will be held at the Post Home, 429 Main Street, Johnson City, NY  13790 on October 21, 2007 from 8am-noon.

If you go away hungry from this activity, it is not our fault.  Hope to see you there!

NewsChannel 34 (WIVT-TV/DT, Binghamton) is starting a “Treasures for the Troops” collection drive in the next few weeks, which will benefit the Fairy Godmother Brigade (if you were at Power for the Troops II, you would remember Donna Pandich, who wore the wings and brought a standup of MAJ Gerry Benard to our breakfast that day).  Donna is the prime mover behind the Fairy Godmother Brigade, and is looking for lots of items to send to our troops overseas.   Our 2nd Vice Commander will make an appearance on October 25th on the “Live at 5:30″ segment of NewsChannel 34, which originates from the Oakdale Mall every Monday through Friday.

This drive will assist our servicemen and women with both amusing and practical contributions to help make their daily lives better. And local donors will receive public recognition amidst a fun and festive live television environment.

If interested in participating, please contact News Director Jim Ehmke at 771-3434 x1934 or jimehmke@clearchannel.com for more information.

Post 758/Broome County Legion Blood Drive on 9/13

Our return to the blood drive business netted 35 donations for the New York Penn Region of American Red Cross Blood Services.  Jim Muska outdid himself in the kitchen…and thanks to the volunteers (Don and Jane Sturdevant, and Madam President Dorolyn Perry from the Broome County American Legion Auxiliary) for helping out where needed.  They even got the 2nd Vice Commander to shed some blood for the Legion!  (see below)

Our neighbors up the street at Wilson Regional Medical Center’s Blood Bank came to donate as part of the 35. Now, we have a goal for next year’s edition.

Pancake Breakfast Buffets Return for 07-08!

Pancake Breakfast Buffet at Post 758

This is one of Post 758’s most popular activities, if not THE most popular activity, we sponsor during our program year.  Here’s how it works.  You show up with an appetite at Post 758 on the 3rd Sunday of the month (September through June, with an exception for the Ski Club annual sale in November).  You pay $5 and enjoy as much breakfast as you would like.  We are pleased to serve Hatfield brand meats (finger link sausage and Hotel brand bacon) because of their quality (we regularly get compliments on the bacon and sausage from those who attend).

Our first buffet is scheduled for September 16, 2007 from 8am-Noon.

The baseball program, and other activities of Post 758 benefit from your attendance and patronage.

National Commander Conatser Coming to Post 758 on October 28th

We’ll have more as the details are finalized by the 6th District organizing committee, but we can tell you that the newly elected  National Commander of the American Legion,  Martin F. (Marty) Conatser (Post 102, DeLand, IL), will make an official visit to Post 758 on October 28, 2007.  If you’d like to attend the dinner that will be given in his honor, please see one of the officers for a ticket.  The tickets will cost $15, and you have until October 14 to buy one.   It’ll help if you can buy them in advance so we can get a better idea on who’ll be there.  We will add more information to this topic as it becomes available.

Update:  The Dinner will begin at 4PM on Sunday, October 28; Cocktails at 3PM.  Price for the tickets and other information is unchanged.

Auxiliary Garage Sale October 6, 2007

Our Ladies Auxiliary is holding a garage sale on October 6th at the Post Home, 429 Main Street, Johnson City.  Madam President Bailey says that vendors are needed for the sale and that tables are available for $15 (single); two for $25.  June Kinney is handling the details, and would be pleased to help you find a new home for those extra items in your garage or attic.  Please call June at 607-797-8297 for more information.  Also, the Blue Hat Legionnaires will help out if all that shopping gives you an appetite–a chicken barbecue is being planned for that weekend as well.   But wait, there’s more!  Holupki, the way you like it, will be available, but you have to order them in advance.  They will be $9.00 a dozen, and Madam President Bailey will be pleased to fill those orders, if you will call her at 607-797-5882.  Check this space for more details.

Update after the sale:   The sale had to be cancelled at the last minute.  Still, dozens of people showed up.
