When our Post publishes the Family Newsletter, it will be posted on this site, and posted on a bulletin board at the Post Home. What does that mean? It means that you can see the newsletter at the Post Home, and from any computer connected to the internet, at a library, for instance.
Our Post will also send our newsletter, in virus-free Adobe Acrobat PDF format, by e-mail to members who request that we do that. With the increased cost of postage (.41 per copy) and printing, our leadership feels electronic distribution will save our Legion Family quite a bit of money over an all paper distribution. That money (about $200 for each printing) can go for programs to benefit our members, veterans, children and community. With a total membership base of less than 350 between the Legion Family (Legionnaires, Auxiliary Members and Sons of the American Legion), a monthly printed newsletter is not economically prudent or desirable. The blog can be updated within minutes of information becoming available. Since this blog has no monetary cost at present, it is the most economical way to get information to Legion family members–and it is the way future generations of Post 758 leaders will get information to their members.
We will, of course, continue the paper distribution of the newsletter for the near future. That’s why it is VITAL for members of our Legion Family to make sure their addresses are up to date. Our goal is to reduce paper distribution of the Family Newsletter to 50 or fewer copies between the Legion, its Auxiliary and Sons squadron.
Here are our deadlines for publication in the 2007-2008 Membership Year:
-
FEBRUARY 2008–January 18, Noon for written and e-mailed submissions (NOTE CHANGE)
-
MAY 2008–May 1 for e-mailed articles; April 25 for print articles on paper
-
AUGUST 2008–August 10 for e-mailed articles; July 31 for print articles on paper
A deadline has to be in place, so the newsletter can be edited, published, printed and mailed. No submission will be considered after the dates mentioned above.
We prefer e-mailed submissions to our e-mail address: motorsportsradio(a)msrpk.com. You may also, of course, leave printed submissions (one paragraph is ideal, two maximum) at the Post Home in an envelope marked “NEWSLETTER” so they make the deadline. They will be edited for length, grammar, spelling and propriety. All members of the Legion Family are encouraged to submit short articles for publication. Members of the Auxiliary and Sons should co-ordinate their submissions.
Here’s another good reason to add our blog to your favorites: We’ll post late breaking information and when we can, snapshots from Post activities here. We want you to get your information on our Post 758 Family from us, not second hand.
